Additional Activities to Resume in Yolo County June 12th
(Woodland, CA) – Effective Friday, June 12, Yolo County will begin allowing additional activities to resume operations. The County is re-opening these activities following low Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) cases locally and with specified guidelines to ensure the continued protection of public health and safety. This includes strict social distancing requirements and the mandatory use of face coverings, in accordance with local health orders.
The State of California announced last week activities that were permitted to resume, either statewide or in variance approved counties, as early as June 12. Per the new Yolo County Health Order issued on May 28, 2020, businesses and activities must wait for the County’s Public Health Officer to allow state approved activities to resume. This provides the County with time to assess local conditions and the supporting state guidance.
Effective June 12, the following activities are allowed to resume as long as they 1) follow State and/or County guidance, 2) adhere to the County’s face covering order; 3) comply with strict social distancing protocols:
- Schools (further details regarding school re-openings will be provided by schools or school districts at a later date)
- Day camps
- Music, film and TV production
- Professional sports (without live audiences)
- Movie theaters and family entertainment centers
- Bars and wineries
- Zoos, museums, galleries and aquariums
- Gyms and fitness facilities
- Hotels (for tourism and individual travel)
- Cardrooms and racetracks
- Campgrounds and outdoor recreation
- Public swimming pools (saunas, spas and hot tubs should remain closed)
- Wedding ceremonies (no reception)
Public swimming pools are being permitted based on recommendations from the State in the guidance for pools at fitness facilities, hotels, and campgrounds. Direct guidance for pools is available from Yolo County Environmental Health and does not permit the use of saunas, spas, and hot tubs. Wedding ceremonies are protected under the First Amendment and align with the State guidance permitting places of worship and cultural ceremonies. However, wedding receptions will not be permitted.

“As the county opens up we want to encourage everyone to take advantage of our great weather and to walk and exercise safely,” said Gary Sandy, Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors. “We also hope local residents will remember to stay close to home, to wear a mask when in proximity to members of the public, to avoid large gatherings, engage in frequent hand washing and to take personal responsibility for safeguarding their health and the health of others. Practice healthy habits.”
As these activities reopen, the public is responsible for adhering to the rules or guidelines that are set by these entities as well as practicing social distancing and wearing a face covering. Everyone has a role to play in keeping our communities safe and healthy. Older adults and individuals with underlying medical conditions should continue to stay at home as much as possible except for accessing essential services and activities.
While the State Order is in effect, counties are prohibited from reopening businesses that have not been approved. Items not permitted in the current stage of the State’s Readiness Plan include: nail salons, libraries, playgrounds, nightclubs, concert venues, live audience sports, theme parks, higher education, live theater, and others. Counties are permitted to be more restrictive, not less, than the State regarding the reopening of activities.
